  • End of year 2024 - 2025

It has been a busy last few weeks of the school year and we'd love to show you what we have been up to in school.

    Magic Lantern Art Workshop

We had a fantastic art workshop in all the classes where pupils learnt how to read artwork. In the Dragons class the art workshop focused on boats in art, whereas the Shire class looked at flight and the Wizards class concentrated on wheels. With pictures from Banksy to Constable, the pupils were asked lots of questions about what they could see. All the children came up with lots of fascinating observations and were inspired to think about what they see in art.

    Cornbury Trip

There was a carousel of activities during the countryside day trip that the whole school took to Cornbury Park. The pupils were shown what types of machinery are used at the Park and how much they cost, such as hundreds of thousands of pounds for a combine harvester. They saw what crops look like at harvest and when they are made into finished products.

The students met and learnt about the many animals that live on the Estate. Many different birds live on the estate and pupils went about to collect twigs and branches to make their own nest.

Pupils in the Pixies class were a bit concerned about the squirrel catching when they learnt about vermin control! But they were happy to meet Barney, the well-trained working farm dog. There were sheep and two pigs and the children found some goose eggs.

Students learnt about tree management and how they have to cut some trees down so that others can grow.

    Sports Day

It was a hot morning for sports day, but the children excelled at races, obstacle courses and challenges. William said: “I did very massive jumps”. The pupils were split into teams and the green team won overall. Thank you to the parents who came to support and cheer the children on.

    Brass Assembly

It was a lovely sunny morning for the brass assembly, and we are very proud of the children who have practised their instruments well in order to be able to show the parents and carers. Students from the Dragons and Wizards classes showed off their prowess with different brass instruments. It was a fun morning with Mr Gray joining in with his trombone and some tunes played to music. Thank you, Mr Gray for your patience and tuition!

    The Shire

In the Shire we have all enjoyed the sunshine this week with lots of activities on the go. The pixies class had a mysterious treasure chest appear in the classroom on Wednesday, and they did some amazing writing about where it could have come from. Poppy thought, 'An aeroplane dropped it in the playground' and Casper believed that, 'someone swam and got it from under the sea'. We ended the week decorating our plant pots and planting sunflower seeds. We are really hoping that with all the sunshine they will start to grow.

After the film premiere, Elves and Griffons have been starting to generate ideas for small animation films which we hope to finish next week. We've also returned to our textile and sewing project and some of the year two girls are very proud of their Robin Hood Hats.

    Dragons Class

The children in the Dragons class have been writing about their year in the Dragons from the exciting topics they have covered and all the amazing trips they have been on, from the Lake District to Bath, Sulgrave Manor to Cornbury Park. To celebrate the end of the school year and achieving all their house points, the children got to take a trip to the park in Chadlington and ate jam tarts they made in the kitchen with Mrs Blackwell.

The felt animals and birds made by the dragons are now displayed in the classroom and the children are excited that it is now completed. We think they look fantastic and are proud of the children’s dedication and patience.

We have welcomed our new teacher, Miss Bartlett on the move-up morning and year four children have had a taste of being in the wizards class ready for next year.

    Wizards Class

In D&T, the Wizards Class have been creating bags of their own designs. These include their embroidery as well as a technique for imprinting flowers called Tataki Zome. Mrs Attwood has been the driving force in this endeavour and the children have risen to the challenge.

As part of our textile designers topic, the children have been researching the Bayeaux Tapestry and the Battle of Hastings. They found out about both sides in the battle with their leaders; William of Normandy (known as William the Conqueror after he won the battle) and Harold Godwinson. They have also created some amazing portraits.

Finally, the year 6s have been busy writing their memories in preparation for their leavers' assembly next Thursday morning at 9.15am in St. Nicolas' Church, Chadlington. Everyone is welcome to come along to the service.

    Film Premiere

There were a fantastic four showings over two evenings, of the school film at the Living Room Cinema in Chipping Norton. We were encouraged by the parents' enthusiasm to see the children star in an amazing film that was part documentary, part live action and part animation. The children and teachers have worked hard over the past year to put together a film that highlighted and showcased the truly creative curriculum that the school has at Chadlington. The film will be on the website soon.
