This term we are palaeontologists and it has inspired so much great learning.
Years 3 to 6 were fortunate enough to put their questions to a real-life former Paleontologist, Dr Alex Page, who managed to answer their various questions about pre-historic life, the earth and what it's like to study dinosaurs!
Years 5 and 6 have been learning how fossils are formed, about evolution and inheritance and the impact of Darwin on scientific thinking. Keep your eyes peeled for details of the soon-to-be-announced trip to the Natural History Museum in London. Ammonites have inspired some beautiful art.

The Dragons have been creative with egg boxes designing their own dinosaurs. Thank you for collecting so many for the class! The focus in maths has been learning to tell the time; the class are doing brilliantly getting to grips with this often tricky subject.
The class moved maths outside into the sunshine to measure the size of a T-Rex (13m by 5m) in the playground. It really bought home the scale of these prehistoric creatures when it took almost the whole class to make a T-Rex!

The class is really excited to visit the Natural History Museum in Oxford today and get hands on with fossils!
The Shire was thrilled to welcome a very special surprise visitor — Andy the palaeontologist! The children were excited from the moment he arrived and eagerly listened as they were taken on a fascinating journey back to the time of the dinosaurs.

The excitement continued as the children took part in their very own fossil dig, carefully excavating and discovering different types of fossils hidden beneath the sand. The activity encouraged curiosity, teamwork, and hands-on learning, and the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring and investigating just like real scientists.

Lots of the older children have been making the most of the opportunities we have as part of the Chipping Norton School Partnership. From year 3 upwards, the classes have multiple chances to play sport and improve their skills with other children from 10 nearby primary schools. In addition, Chipping Norton Rugby Club is hosting our school next week, so the children can improve their rugby skills. It’s great they get the chance to broaden their horizons and socialise with other children locally.
