To kick things off, we welcomed years 5 and 6 back into their new look classroom, which had a ‘glow-up’ over the holiday with new fitted cupboards, furniture and a fresh look and feel.

The arrival and removal of the skip to clear the waste was a cause for much excitement in the Shire. Proving that sometimes, clearing up can be part of the fun!

The children have already been out enjoying the sunshine in the playground with two externally led projects: Bikeability and cricket skills with Oxfordshire Cricket. Bikeability supports the children to become good, confident cyclists on the road. The children graduated from practising in the playground to cycling around the village over two days, where they were introduced to real-life traffic situations in a controlled and supportive environment. It's an excellent life skill to have. 

The whole school are improving their cricket skills, as well as their team work and communication with coaching from Oxfordshire Cricket Chance to Shine. We’re delighted that this will happen throughout the summer term.

The Dragon's have also had some great opportunities to get out and about in our local area, working on their geography skills surveying Chadlington village at the end of last term. 

This week in Reception, the children completed their final week of our topic “We Are Architects.” They explored the story Roberto the Insect Architect, which inspired lots of creative thinking and discussion. The children then worked collaboratively with friends across KS1 to design and build their own bug houses, showing great teamwork and imagination. This hands-on project also linked to their maths learning, as they explored 3D shapes and used them to construct their models.

Inspired by the picture book, Roberto the Insect Architect by Nina Laden, the children built an obstacle course in the playground. It was all designed and built collaboratively by them. 
 

Looking ahead, we are palaeontologists this term. There will be a dinosaur dig set up on site for the youngest and trips to the Natural History Museum for the eldest. We will be learning all about earthquakes, volcanoes, deep time and paleontologists. The term certainly promises to go with a big bang!
