We are artists

Food, technology and art intertwined in this term’s theme ‘we are artists’

We have been all over the world this term without having to leave Chadlington!

The Shire have been exploring the African continent, getting to grips with colours and seasons. They began in the north in Tunisia, travelled west to Gambia and south to South Africa. Along the way, pupils explored a rich range of art forms: Islamic-inspired tile designs, colourful patterned textiles and intricate beadwork. To conclude our African arts project, the children took part in an African drumming workshop on Monday 9 February, playing rhythms and beats on Djembe drums. The children had a wonderful time and we were thrilled so many parents were able to join us!

The Dragons
What took thousands of years in real life, the Dragons can do in an afternoon when they put their minds to it! The great wall of China sprung up as the class got to grips with shapes, working out how they fit together and constructing their wall.

We’ve learnt about Pandas, their habitats, diets and habits. All the dragons had a great time at the Ashmolean last week learning about the Shang dynasty. It was lovely to see them so engaged with ancient history.

Partner work has been the focus in PE and there has been some great teamwork on show in gymnastics, working together to move and create shapes.  We have been using Time Table Rockstars to practise time tables and it is proving to be very popular with all the children!

Wizards
Learning about the expressionists, surrealists and impressionists has inspired lots of work in the Years 5 and 6. Edvard Munch’s ‘The Scream’ provided the stimulation for original poems and the class created their own digital art using the Procreate app. The class had a great trip to Frameless and the National Gallery.

It was fantastic to experience an immersive way to view art as well as tour the National Gallery and get up-close-and-personal with some priceless works of art! The class came away with so much to think about for the augmented reality exhibition we will be hosting.

Our Science work has included investigating reversible and irreversible changes: the children have completed investigations into which materials dissolve and make a solution and which do not as well as how we can separate a variety of different substances.

Sporting fixtures at Chippy School have given the children some great exposure to competitive sport. Congratulations to all the children who took part in the swimming gala as well as the hockey tournament. Bravo!

Finally...have a wonderful break over half-term!
