The shire have learnt about the importance of bees and made model kites, the dragons continue investigating engineers and tennis skills and the wizards have enjoyed art workshops. It's been a busy week!
The Shire
The Pixies have been learning about bees this week. They got up close to see the bees collecting pollen and flying from flower to flower. The Pixies have learnt about bee pollination and why it's important for humans. They enjoyed learning and performing a bee rhyme for the years 1 and 2 and will hopefully show their parents at home!
In the Shire this week, Year 2s have been making kites for their flying timeline of models. They then wrote instructions on how to make them. Years 1 and 2 have been learning about measuring in centimetres and metres.
The children made honeycomb prints with bubblewrap, learnt about the lifecycle of a bee and made bee headbands.
Dragons
Year three went to a tennis fest at Chipping Norton School and did very well on a hot day. They enjoyed learning new skills and meeting children from other partnership schools.
In RE the Dragons class have been learning about world religions and different places of worship. The children continued with their 'we are engineers' topic, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his feats of engineering, such as the SS Great Britain.
In French they have been learning the names of family members, and have started storyboarding for the animation filming with Mr Hornibrook. In maths the dragons are securing column addition and subtraction and times tables facts.
Wizards
This week, the Wizards have been continuing to draw, paint and sketch things connected to our Bristol trip to go on display outside the Wizards classroom: these include the Clifton Suspension Bridge, hot air balloons, the SS Great Britain and even some graffiti inspired by Banksy!
The children have also researched different places, such as M Shed, the Georgian House Museum and Bristol Harbour to create some shared writing for both the display and our documentary.
In the kitchen, a group of the year 5s made savoury scones this week: these were enjoyed by the children at the end of the day.
The year 5s have also enjoyed taking part in two art workshops connected to Kingham Lodge Sculpture Trail.
As part of our 'We are Engineers' topic, the children have been finding out about the famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and were excited to discover that some of the things he designed are still on show in Bristol today.
Finally, the year 6s have been working very hard revising last-minute topics ready for their SATs tests which begin on Monday 12th May.
